Local Heroic and Unglamorous History...

"What is Philadelphia like?"

I've lived in a few areas of the Northeastern United States. My family is now mostly concentrated in metro Philadelphia, so I consider it "home." Despite its reputation for bellicose sports fans, Philadelphia is culturally rich. Few places can match Philadelphia's history, visual and performing arts, cuisine, architecture, and idiosyncrasies. Perhaps because of its distinctive neighborhoods, Philadelphia, a major city, has a suburban/small-town feel in some areas. Even in the eclectic Northeast Megalopolis, Philadelphia is a unique city.

"What do you cherish most about your cultural heritage?"

Growing up in the Northeast, I was surrounded by and immersed in history. To have lofty history on seemingly every block is a privilege. There's more to Philadelphia than just the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. My parents and teachers made it a priority to expose me to local history, both heroic and unglamorous.
